Fulbright U.S. Student Scholar, The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board | As a Fulbright scholar to Sri Lanka (2019-2020), I researched and read literature from two recent periods, searching out the ways in which communities divided along ethnic, religious, and ideological lines have come together.

Pulitzer Center “Beyond War” Fellow, The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting | As one of The Pulitzer Center’s “Beyond War” fellows in 2018, I researched and reported on literary reconciliation efforts in Sri Lanka, focusing on the Write to Reconcile program led by Shyam Selvadurai, Nayomi Munaweera and Ameena Hussein. The piece I wrote after finishing my reporting is online here.

Graduate Student Instructor, American Studies, UC Berkeley | As a graduate student instructor at Cal for three semesters (2018-2019), I led students in their discussion sections and supported their learning in class. I used a range of methods to engage students, from quizzes, to group work, to creative writing assignments. I was responsible for participation, attendance, paper assignments and grading, as well as holding regular office hours.

Writer, the New York Times, Literary Hub, BOMB, BUST, Catapult, Gulf Coast, Narratively and other publications | I write book reviews, profiles of artists, essays, short fiction, author interviews, and copy for podcast episodes, social media, and related articles.

Managing Editor, The Rational Online | The Rational Online is an international online magazine that advocates for womxn’s rights. We published our inaugural collection in November 2018. As the managing editor, I hired an editorial staff, edited every piece published in our first three collections, connected writers with section editors, took care of typos in post, and completed a range of other tasks.

Fact Checker, Via Magazine | At Via, I checked names, dates, locations, distances, and all factual statements in assigned articles appearing in Via Magazine and on their blog.

Reporter, Oakland North | While at Oakland North, I covered bias in policing, the Trump administration’s birth control rules, an in-custody death, and quite a few other stories, using a range of media.

Arts & Culture Editor, Entropy | At Entropy, I sought work by contributors who had thought deeply about the subject they’d chosen to cover, and whose writing conveyed that depth.

Teaching Apprentice, Solano Community College | As a TA at Solano, I worked closely with English professors to learn pedagogy, grading essays and other work, preparing short lectures, and guiding students to comprehension of difficult subject matter.
